Lyle LaVonne Laughlin, 81, of Lafayette, Colorado, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2017. Born November 19, 1935 in Chadron, Nebraska, he was the son of the late Gerald and Margaret Laughlin. He spent his early childhood in Berthoud, then the Lafayette and Erie area on the family dairy farm. Lyle graduated from Louisville High School in 1953.


Lyle was in the U.S. Navy from 1956 – 1959. He attended the U.S. Navy Machinery Repairman School in San Diego, California and served on the USS William C Lawe 763 and the USS Cascade Ad 16 ships.


After the Navy, Lyle worked as a skilled machinist at Ball Brothers Aerospace, Wellborn, and Rocky Flats. Lyle also enjoyed refurbishing antiques and for a short period of time owned an antique store (This and That) on S. Public Road in Lafayette.


Lyle loved to entertain people with jokes and stories. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and bowling with his family and friends. He was active with his local community and above all loved and adored his family.  He will forever be remembered for his compassion, desire, and ability to help others. He was a friend and mentor to many.


He is survived by three children, Lorie Walter (John) of Lafayette, CO, James Laughlin (Beth) of Fairbanks, AK, and Lynda Laughlin (Keith Parsons) of Washington, D.C.; three grandchildren, Melissa and Taylor Reese, and Sara Laughlin; a sister Geraldine (Roger) Resseguie of Longmont, CO; and many family members and friends.


Memorial services will be held at 11am, Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Erlinger Funeral & Cremation Service at 1316 Centaur Village Drive, Lafayette, CO 80026. Following the ceremony, a small reception for friends and family will be held at East Simpson Coffee Company at 414 E. Simpson, Lafayette, CO.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made the VFW or the Friends of the Lafayette Public Library Foundation.


Lyle’s ashes will be laid to rest at Fort Logan National Cemetery, next to his late wife Ann.
